Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu 4 days

The Marvelous Inca Trail to Machu Picchu 4 days 3 nights: This is a classic, unforgettable experience, an expedition walking on the original ancient Incan Road. Hiking through challenging terrain at 4,000 meters in altitude, sharing moments of natural beauty, impressive valleys, all to reach the sacred city of Machu Picchu, one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Trip Itinerary:

DAY 1: Cusco – KM 82 – Patallaqta – Huayllabamba. (3000 masl)

Early in the morning we will pick you up from your hotel. Then we will travelin our private van for about 2 hours until the starting point of the Inca trail (which is called kilometro 82). Before we begin the walk, our professional guide will introduce our staff, such as the porters who will carry the equipment we will need on our trip and also our professional chef, who will make the

most delicious food for our whole trek. Then we will prepare ourselves and start the journey, warming up on a relatively flat part of the Inca trail. The first day we will walk approximately 5 hours until our first camp sites.

After 2 hours walk, we will reach the first archaeoogical center of PATALLACTA, where you will appreciate the Incabuilding and the impressive landscapes and know the history of this Inca village. Here, we can also see a lot of species of flora and fauna. Along the way, you will enjoy the beautiful valley in the context of the Inca history. Some time during this trek, we may see birds such as hummingbirds, andean flickers, chat tyrants, etc. Around midday we will eat lunch. After lunch we will continue ascending to a semi-tropical valley for 3 more hours until  we reach Huayllabamba (3000 meters above sea level), where we will spend the first night.

DAY 02: Huayllabamba – Abra Warmiwañusca – Pacaymayo (3500 masl)

Our breakfast will be early in the morning (for many people this day is considered the hardest

and we will walk around 6 – 7 hours). We will start hiking up through the Huayllabamba Valley, pass different climatic and ecological zones, and ascend until Warmiwañusca Pass. We will walk among the abundant vegetation with manytypes of trees, where we may see some flowers and beautiful types of birds. The walk will be at your own pace with as many stops as you like, to catch your breath or to stretch a muscle. The last hard climb takes us right to the highest pass of the Inca Trail at Warmi Wañuska. This pass is known by many as the world’s highest cloud forest.

After the toughest part of the journey, which is nearly 5 hours, you will arrive at the highest point known to some as the Dead Woman’s Pass. Here we will take a break and ob

serve the beauty of the deep valleys and the beautiful landscapes. If you are lucky you can see the magnificent Andean condor flying overhead (the condor was the sacred bird of the Incas). From here we will descend along a winding trail into Pacaymayu Valley where we will find our second camp site, which is called Pacaymayu  (3500 masl).

You will find toilet facilities here.

DAY 3: Pacaymayo – Sayac Marka – Wiñayhuayna . (2600 masl).

Today we will begin early on our walk after breakfast. We will make a steep climb up the opposite side of Pacaymayo Valley towards the second pass. About halfway up we will reach a small, round, roofless Inca construction. This Inca monument is known as RUNCURAKAY, a building known as an anthropogical site and a sort of checkpoint for couriers following the trail to Machupicchu.

After a short tour, we will continue to ascend towards the second pass,Abra de Runkuracay. The next part of the path descends towards a valley and a shallow lake. The trail changes from a dirt path to a narrow stone roadway containing the exact same stones which were present when the Incas walked the trail. Continuing our journey we will reach the large Inca site, SAYACMARCA (town in a steep place). This town was built on a rock overlooking the trail and is accessible only via a single narrow stone staircase. Here you will see that the walls still stand strong and the shape of the fortress can easily be seen. You will also see an aqueduct, which once carried water to the farmlands. After the tour in Sayacmarca we will descend to the bottom of the valley. The roadway takes the form of a long causeway leading across what may once have been a shallow lake where we will enjoy our delicious lunch. We will continue our journey through the interesting Inca structures, including a tunnel that is 8 meters long and wide enough to allow humans and animal to pass through. After this tunnel we will reach the third pass and enjoy the third Inca site site of Phuyupatamarca (cloud level town). Here we will learn about the ritual functions that the Incas used this site for. You will also see water springs that the Incas used before they reached Machu Picchu. From there you will reach another site, Huyñayhuayna (forever young). After we reach our campsite, we will visit and learn about this monument. Here we will spend our last night of our tour of the Inca trail.

DAY 4: Wiñayhuayna – Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes – Ollantaytambo – Cusco

Today is the last day of our adventure. We will leave our camp very early and walk a relatively flat path for around 1 and a half hours until we reach INTIPUNKU (the sun gate door). After three and a half days of trekking and struggling you will look through the rectangular doorway of the sun gate and finally take in the first views of the lost city of the Incas and one of the seven wonders of the world (MACHU PICCHU). From there  we will descend into Machu Picchu. There your guide will give you all the information on a tour through the ruins for around 3 hours.
