Expedition: Salkantay Tour : 5 Days
This is one of the most complete expeditions. You will pass at 4510m and then it’s a relaxing walking down. You will pass trough some remote villages, and enjoy fabulous views of the Veronica, SALKANTAY and other snow peaks, green valleys and the river Urubamba, maybe you can see condors and surely you’ll meet very friendly people. When we enter in the jungle part of this region you will be able to see different kind of birds and lots of flowers like orchids.We can try a variety of fruit and we can appreciate the coffee plantations. The temperature change from -5°C to 30°C. The altitude also goes from 2400 to 4000 meters above sea level.The last day, very early we are going to visit the archaeological place of MACHUPICCHU and then we will return to Cusco city.
ITINERARY: Cuzco – Mollepata – Soraypampa – Challway – Colpapampa – Santa Teresa – Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu
DAY 01: CUZCO – MOLLEPATA
Pick up from airport or from your hotel and transfer by bus from Cusco to MOLLEPATA( 4hours).Start the trek outside this village at 2850m.
You will walk through a nice valley slowly going up until you reach the campsite in Soraypampa at 3850m. On your way, if the weather is clear, you can see parts of the mountains Humantay and SALKANTAY (six hours of walk approximately.Lunch, dinner and camping
DAY 02: SORAYPAMPA – CHALLWAY
Hard walk day from Soraypampa within 1 hour. You start the climb to the first pass of 4000 meters, where we can appreciate Salkantay snowed, which takes about 4 hours.
If you’re lucky, you’ll see the snow and ice very close. Then walking down to the possible camp inSarampata at 3360m, or a little more down where you find already tropical vegetation. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and camping.
DAY 03: CHAULLAY – COLPAPAMMPA
After breakfast we will walk down to Colpapampa village that will takes about 2 hours, depending on where was the campsite. We can also visit the thermal baths.
This is a small village where most people work in coffee plantation and others of the tropical region.Breakfast, lunch, dinner and camping
DAY 04: SANTA TERESA – AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHUPICCHU
Transport to Santa Teresa village; in the route we can see tropical vegetation, long walk of 3 hours untilAGUAS CALIENTES.
Overnight in a hostel. Breakfast, lunch and lodge.
DAY 05: AGUAS CLIENTES – MACHUPICCHU
After breakfast we will visit the archaeological site of MACHUPICCHU in a guided tour to the principal parts like the temple of the three windows, the Intihuatana, etc.
You are going to have free time there and in the afternoon return to Cusco by train.
